2004
Harrington Industrial Laundry claims 5th Title
The 2004 season started under a bad omen as the revered home of the Glenwood League, Ainsworth Field, was closed for public safety issues. It wasn't until mid-season and a commitment from local businessman Dennis Braendel and the Ainsworth Commission that the park was temporarily re-opened prior to its 2004 facelift. Games were scattered throughout Erie County as the nine team circuit hit the road for the GBL's 85th season.
The Ainsworth Division was highlighted by perennial power Harrington Industrial Laundry winning its 5th Glenwood League Championship defeating The Lakers in the playoffs and TESCO in the Finals. Baycrete also earned a playoff spot and lost a very tight series to TESCO in the playoffs. The Buell's Corner Store Bulls narrowly missed their second playoff appearance while settling in at third place. 1st year Epperson Construction secured last place in the Ainsworth Division.
TESCO won the Cannavino Divisional Title and pushed through a very tough Baycrete team in the playoffs only to loose in three games to Harrington to surrender the Championship Title. The Laker's secured a playoff spot, but fell in two games to Harrington. Sara's Knights produced a solid season despite key injuries along the way finishing in third place. Rookie squad The Mad Scoops from Albion came on in late season and showed a good deal of promise, and won some key games down the stretch. Knox Law firm completed the Division in last place.
Harrington breezed through the Lakers in the playoffs 10 to 7 and 14 to 1, ending their playoff hopes in two games. Rickey Cruz pounded 3 RBI's for Harrington in game 1 as teammates Ryan Neitupski plated two and Nick Kulyk belted 4 hits. Derek Marsh earned the win. TESCO had a rougher time advancing after loosing the first game 3 - 2 to a very tough Baycrete squad. TESCO rallied in the next two games to win 2-1 and 4-0.
The Finals produced three very close games, but in the end Harrington swept the series and regained the Glenwood Trophy for the fifth time. Harrington pitching bottled the TESCO offense, while the Harrington line-up produced timely hitting to win the three games 1-0, 3-2 and finally 6-4. Harrington's Charlie Spano ended the series with five RBI's and teammate Tom Paskievitch earned 2 saves as the team's closer, while starters Dave Graham, Joe Spano and Derek Marsh limited TESCO to 4 runs.
