Ainsworth Field
23rd and Washington
The Glenwood League plays the majority of its games at this
location. The field was originally built in the 1920's and has
been renovated several times, most recently in 2004 with the
generous help of local contractor Dennis Braendel. Ainsworth
is one of a very few grandstand style parks from this era still
standing today and was chosen as a backdrop for a scene in the
2007 documentary "Signs of the Time."
The right field fence stands a mere 290 feet away with the
fence reaching approximatley fifty feet high, like a backwards
Green Monster. Center tapers out to 405 and Left Field
measures 330. Left handed batters drool looking out at the red
Roosevelt School bricks beckoning behind the short porch.
Brabender Field
Named after George "Pat" Brabender, three term Alderman (sixth ward) and two term City Councilman, for his long service to the
City of Erie. His team "Pat's Dinor" roamed the Glenwood Circuit in the 1920's. - Daily Sports News 7/31/1983
The GBL plays many of the remaing games at Brabender field, know for its expansive outfield and tricky infield hops. Home runs
here are rare since the switch to wood bats, but the gaps are deep allowing plenty of extra bases.
Russell E. Diethrick, Jr. Park
Jamestown New York
"Built in 1941 Russell E. Diethrick, Jr. Park is the second oldest ballpark in the NY-Penn League. The stadium is owned by the City of
Jamestown with the Jammers leasing it as the primary tenant. It was originally known as Jamestown Municipal Stadium and hosted
the Jamestown Falcons of the "Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League" (PONY League), which is now known as the NY-Penn League.
The park was later unofficially known as College Stadium after Jamestown Community College relocated their campus right behind
the park on Falconer Street in 1961.
On August 9, 1997 the park was renamed Russell E. Diethrick, Jr. Park in honor of Jamestown's "Mr. Baseball." It was dedicated to
Mr. Diethrick as he has been player, manager, owner, supporter and friend of professional and youth baseball in Jamestown as a for
longer than most can remember. Russ is currently the Community Development Officer for Jamestown Savings Bank. He is an
important member of the voluntary Jamestown Jammers Executive Advisory Board, and is the Host President of the Jamestown Babe
Ruth World Series Committee and a member of the National Board of Directors for Babe Ruth, Inc
Diethrick Park has recently seen numerous renovations to modernize the ballpark. By the start of the 2006 Jammers season the park
will feature a brand new scoreboard and sound system. The Park also hosts all Jamestown Community College and Jamestown High
School home baseball games, and the Babe Ruth World Series (most recently in 2005) as well as many other local Babe Ruth games." -
